Moustache Society

Moustache Society

Are you part of it?

Moustache society is a group for curious, disobedient people hungry to sigh out of joy, to be surprised and to recreate themselves with images and readings filled with imagination. It is a society for those who do not mind to stop in time, for those who want to notice their heartbeats and know that their reasoning could blush or horrify them. It is for people who want to swim in a sea of playful doubts they do not mind resolving.

Today we have invite someone special to introduce herself as a new member of Moustache society. Welcome Adriana.

My name is Adriana Bowden, married, 4 children (2 from my husbands last marriage and 2 babies) I am from Brazil but live in USA and I love drawing.. My work is very simple, like me....
The fact I love so much drawing is because I feel transported to a dreaming place.. a magic and enchanted place...
Right now I am working on my first book and it’s written and illustrated by my. It’s a serie with Lillou’s character and the first one is “A little Trip Away”

Where are you from?

I am from Recife-PE, Brazil, very sunny place, with beautiful, warm beaches.... I miss every tiny thing from there.... I live in GA-USA though because my husband is American....

How and when did you start drawing?
I draw since I can remember... I always had paper and pencil by my side, but I used to hide my drawings for some reason...

How and where do I get the inspiration?

I have to babies: 4 and 2 years old. It is amazing, but when I am putting them to sleep, I start “seeing” my new drawing.... It starts slowly and by the time they are finally sleeping, I usually start sketching in their bedroom....

How do you get your colorpallet??
It’s mostly from flowers... I used this one on my last drawing.

What do you use to draw?
My work is very simple. After sketching, I just use Adobe Illustrator just because if I have to blow up my drawing, I won’t loose quality and anyway I do prefer doing as a vector because it’s just easier (I think), then usualy I finish with Photoshop.

How do you make your textures?

I love textures and anything that would look a good texture to me, I take photo and work on it.. or I just use normal photoshop brushes.

Do you name your characters?
Yes.. I love and name all of them and I feel different about each one... My favorite though is Lillou, who I say is my daugther.... I don’t know really why, but I just love the result.. I already have done it in watercolor and even paper of different textures... love all the results :)

A little bit more about you...
I love drawing and I do from my heart... I am a very sensitive person... and I can’t hide my feelings... they always come out...

Today we star a new section called "Self Interview". Pistache Moustache will invite artists and illustrator we admire, to present us a random of questions they would like to answer themself. Things nobody has asked them before, things they want to share, aspects they want to talk from a personal perspective. We want to hear how it sounds when they knock them own door. We want artists to feel free and confortable

We will start with an illustrator we admire. She is Joana Rosa Bragança. She is a portuguese illustrator who lives in the south of Portugal. Is a big pleasure to have her as our first guest. We love the way she draws. We love her characters, they has thieved our heart. We are touched by her colors palette. All around her work is soft and tender. You must need to check her website, follow her blog and we are sure you will like her facebook. Welcome !

Joana by Joana

What’s your favourite spot to work?

In the summer it’s in my backyard, under the orange tree. In the winter it’s at my studio, watching the rain and the sea through the window with the good company of my indoor plants.

What are your favourite things from where you live?

I live in Olhão, a small town in the south of Portugal. I like the fact that it is located between the sea and the countryside and it is quiet but also full of life. I love the local markets and the traditional white cubic rooftops.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Sometimes it comes from the inside, sometimes from the outside. I get inspiration especially from living beings, peculiar animals, genuine people that live nearby, plants, fishermen and their dogs or fluffy moustaches I see walking down the street. Childhood memories and toys inspire me too. Frequently I also get ideas from things I hear through my window, from local tales and characters, music, literature, old fabrics and all sorts of unexpected things.

Which are your favourite techniques?

I love using watercolour and indian ink, cutting, printmaking and sewing.

You like to create characters! How is your relationship with them?

My characters almost become alive while I’m drawing or sewing them! I start to imagine how their voices would sound, guessing their personalities and tastes, how would they relate to each other… they are my imaginary friends!

Do you prefer illustrating a text or creating freely?

I like to alternate between one thing and another, but still prefer to create freely.

What do you like to do when you’re not making art?

I love gardening, reading in the sun, playing with my cats, walking in nature, traveling, eating warm apple strudel with ice cream and taking photographs with my beloved film cameras.

What are your dreams for the future as an artist?

I dream about being a full time artist, making exhibitions, illustrating books and keep learning new things until I’m old. I also dream about having a fruit & vegetable garden!

Close your eyes! What do you see?

A furry Llama adorned with colourful pompons smiling at me !

Thank you so much Joana !

Monsieur Voyage Membership 8

membershipPosted by Pistache Moustache Mon, March 12, 2012 11:55:37

sean necesarias.

9. Qué te encantaría hacer que no has hecho todavía? A dónde te gustaría

proyecto.
tienen menos oportunidades.

Muchas gracias Monsieur Voyage. Podeis explorar su pagina en http://www.monsieurvoyage.net

Monster Riot Membership 7

membershipPosted by Pistache Moustache Mon, September 19, 2011 18:35:07
Today we introduce you a creative couple Jason AND Catherine.
One make more this (find inspiration) the other one that (create eccentric) .
One duo. Together they collaborate under the name Monster Riot
We have invite them to be part of Moustache society and they have accepted. Here is the interview:

1. Do you probably have pets. Don´t you?
Yes we do have pets! We have two dwarf rabbits called Sanchez and Florence. They are house rabbits so they're very well trained but very naughty! We're looking at getting a doggy in the future and maybe a cat too (as long as they don't eat the rabbits that is!).

2. Craft and graphic. Who is the illustrator and who is the creatures father or mother?
Catherine lovingly stitches all the creatures and anything else handmade that we may create (she's also very good at typography so that might be an avenue we'll explore soon). I (Jason) create all the illustration for the site as I love creating characters and quirky/eccentric images. Catherine comes from an illustration background as well and at some point we'll start to merge our styles when we're more confident in doing so.

3. Which are your favorite humor series, or comedians ever?

That's a tough one as there's so much great comedy out there. I personally prefer British comedy and love sitcoms like Spaced, The Office, Fast Show, The Mighty Boosh and Big Train. Favourite comedian would probably be Ross Noble.

4. Could you recommend us a recipe to bake in autumn and an animation film?
It's getting more chilly so it's time for sausage and beef ale stews or fresh made soups to warm you up on cold Autumn nights... our favourite is Sweetcorn and Butternut Squash soup, you can see the recipe here! The last animated film we really enjoyed at the Cinema was Pixar's Up. I have been watching a lot more short animated films online and my personal favourite at the moment is The Invention of Love - a lovely short film created using silhouettes. You can watch it on Youtube here.

5. Your characters and creatures looks very friendly What is riot about?

Monster Riot is more the thought of our characters being quite bold, colourful and quirky and not being violent thugs! We feel our work is quite loud and loud enough to 'disturb the peace'. Plus the name sounds fun and stands out!

6. Which are your coming projects?
Ah if we told you that we would have to kill you! Only joking, we have a few future projects on the go. We are looking at exhibiting early next year with a few other like minded illustrators, we are planning to sell at craft fairs (which was one of the reasons we created 'Monster Riot'), there will also be a range of t-shirts coming out next Spring with our illustrations on them so keep an eye out!

Thank you very much !!!

Elodie Jarret. Membership 5

membershipPosted by Pistache Moustache Fri, July 08, 2011 10:08:07

The name Elodie sounds music. Maybe that´s also the way to be from our new member Madamme Jarret. A half french and half swedish illustrator. We like her work because it seems that follow the rhythm of colors and shapes and these main notes she plays them with authenticity. She describe herself as an impatient person. Maybe that´s the reason because her work seems to be a result from a deep spontanity feeling, just fresh, different and surprising. She is Elodie Jarret and this is the interview we make her.

1-Do you have a Pet? Which one? And how does it call?
I have two goldfishes, named Dick and Excalibur and Nono, a water-snail.

2-Color seems to be very important in your work. Do you think there is a french color culture or is more personal?
Yes, I consider colors as really important. And it is not always easy to keep the "right" colors through out the production process…
I might be influenced by the french color culture, but as I'm half swedish, by the nordic color swatches too!
I'm allways impressed by the nature's color swatches and the way they are mixed, by the range of colors on a birch tree for example, or on a bugg, a goldfish, etc…!

3-Which shapes do you love?

As for colors, natural shapes! I'm sensitive to simplicity and facinated by how minimalistic shapes can be very expressive!

4-Do you have any ritual in connection with your creation process?
Well, not really… for my personal projects, I use to think about it during quite a long time before working on it. But once started, it should progress quickly, I'm impatient.

5-Let´s suppose you are in farm and suddenly one pig talk to you. What should it say?
I would first hope that it doesn't know I love "rillettes" (french delicatessen). I guess I would talk first and ask it if it would like to come and have a walk with me. Then I would be pleased if it would expose to me its different points of vue on the human being!

6-Which are your big influence?
It's a difficult question. The nature, everyday-life details, my family, my friends, music, cooking, scientifics radio-sendings, as much as Tomi Ungerer's work, Olle Eksell's productions, and the great Tove Jansson!

7-what is your big passion in life?

Trying to be happy! working on my projects and making cherry marmelade!

Her project Studio Lalo Retsgen also resume the other side of sensibility from Elodie. We love it either.
We say Good bye ! thinking in a french baguette, dreaming with cherry mermalade and hearing Daft Punk "
Music Sounds Better With You"
Thank you very much.
Greetings to Dick, Excalibur and Nono

P.Strange Membership 3

Jesús Castro

Bienvenido !!!

"Smells Like Teen Spirit".

Ahora mismo estoy escuchando “The Bright”.
